A hill of baking soda, vinegar dyed blue, green and yellow, and droppers led to scientific work in chemical reaction, and color mixing . As the baking soda and vinegar mixed together volcanic eruptions of bubbles formed leaving craters of color. Mixing the yellow and blue made hills of  many shades of greens. At first we dropped small amounts of vinegar and eventually we poured it on! The reactions became dramatic. As a last event we transferred our color mixes onto paper that we later turned into many shades of green apples.

Bike day was an exciting day! We biked and scootered in the sunshine, graphed the different kinds of bikes we brought and their attributes in bar graphs, tally graphs and pie graphs, talked about many methods of transportation, examined size of wheels, talked about bike safety and how exercise improves our heart and lung function.

After listening to the story which is all about confidence in your own abilities, creativity and uniqueness, students participated in 3 dot making activities with ALL their Seabury schoolmates.

We  had a wonderful question and answer period with an experienced pilot in our study of community helpers. The students had many questions regarding the flight of the plane, the engine, the speed and the passengers. Their questions were answered thoughtfully and completely! Everyone was excited to receive wings and a photo of the plane at the end of the session.

Our Bumblebee and Ladybug scientists experienced a day of collection and scientific observation this week. After a nature walk to find objects they wanted to observe more closely, the students used safety glasses, magnifying glasses, and tongs, along with their senses of sight, hearing and smell to use the scientific process to make observations and discoveries about objects from the natural world around them. They discovered bugs inside pinecones, skeletons of plants, many shapes, textures and colors in their exploration.

Welcome back to Seabury! The new bumblebee class is already making exciting discoveries. Here they are creating patterns with the Sphinxes and Ladybugs. We began with ABAB patterns, Then we tried ABCABC sequences. After that all kinds of patterns emerged with repeating parts 5 and 6 units long!
